does software that you installed before the restore stay on your hard drive somewhere?
I installed norton internet security and then restored but now I can't find it. I want to be sure that I am not installing it twice before I install it again. I looked in add remove programs and it is not there, I also searched for any files and none were found.
No i didn't reformat, I simply RESTORED!!

Nope. When you do a system restore, to a point before you first installed norton, all traces of the program "should be gone"

You could check the "c:/program files/common files" directory and under "documents and settings/YOUR USER NAME/application data"

but i think it's safe to install it again. To be completely sure, norton has a clean utility on it's website, to scan for "norton residue" but i don't think it's nessecairy ;)

if you mean formatting and reinstalling xp then no all these extra programs will be deleted
