running full screen program, Windows XP switches to desktop?

Sometimes when I am running a program full screen the computer goes back to the desktop as if I alt-tabbed onto another program that's not the full screen program. Or if I am watching a video on windows media player full screen sometimes it'll revert to non-fullscreen by itself. What can be causing this? The full screen programs do not crash, they just switch to the background and I have to click on them in the start bar or alt tab to them.

usually, a program reverting back to desktop or minimizing means another program has just been activated. it could happen sometimes specifically if you have a docking program like stardock that activates itself whenever a mouse passes through them. it could also be that you are infected by a malicious software or a virus that is already doing something on the background. run a system scan to check your pc's health.
