I have a Dell Dimension 2400PC with windows XP.?

I am thinking about upgrading the CD drive to a CD/DVD drive.Any suggestions as to make.Is it possible to do this without taking it to a Computer Company.

Have done such stuff before?
It can be pretty simple, even for a first timer.

I am pretty sure that the cd drive is a IDE one
So buy a dvd drive that has IDE connectors

Plug the pc from the mains
Open the casing
Have a good look (Lots of wires, nt to be scared of)
There are two connectors at the back of the cd drive:
1. For the power (small rectangle)
2. For the IDE Connector (Large rectangle)

Unplug those two
Unscrew the cd drive from the mounting case
Now unplug the IDE connector from the board
Plug in the new IDE for your DVD drive in the same place
Mount your dvd drive in the mounting case
Plug in the power and IDE connectors

Plug in the mains see if it works

Remember: Minimum contact with the motherboard components as well as the Ram. They are very sensitive, and any electrostatic current passing from u to these devices can just blow them up!
