They can help you with the basics and some vocab, but ultimately it will be how much study time you put in it that affects how much you learn. Be sure to properly motivate yourself - wouldn't want to flush money down the drain.

I would say they are not extensive enough. They are also not updated to keep up with time, so it could teach you some quite weird phrases. However they are good for learning simple travel phrases and conversation starters etc.
