I am having a ridiculous amount of trouble trying to install a printer. Someone told me today that actually there is no downloadable driver I can use for this purpose, and that it may be six months before one becomes available. Is this true? If you are using Vista, and have a printer that works with it, what printer is it and how did you install it? I will gladly fork out on another printer if it will work. Thanks in advance.
Thank you very much for your answers so far. Much appreciated. The printer is an HP Deskjet F something (can't get to the printer, it's in another room where someone is now sleeping) but all I can get when I try to download the driver is the F300 series, not the specific printer. I bought the computer etc from PC World and they assured me that I just had to download the driver and hey presto! But that hasn't worked at all. As I say, I am so fed up with it that I am prepared to pay for another printer if i can be sure it is compatible, and that it can be EASILY installed. I have another computer running XP with a Lexmark printer, and I just had a disc to install the printer - it was so straightforward!
Are there problems with Vista? Is it 'iffy'? Why does HP have a problem with it?

My personal computer builder and techniciann (brother) recently built me a new one, and specifically stayed away from Vista because of the teething problems with other hardware and software.

However, I would suggest trying

http://www.download.com/

as they are very up to date and offer some great downloads to cover a whole range of needs.

Hope this helps.

Other than that, try the website for company who's printer you have and see if they have a downloadable driver on the site.

Sir, go to the web site of the printers' manufacturer or call their help desk!

What ever hardware software that you chose to buy, check the specs and make sure that it has VISTA drivers.

You should check for driver support no matter what operating system you are using!

I have Vista and an Epson Stylus C66 that works perfectly well. In fact, apart from one game and Nero 6 I've never had any problems with Vista at all.

Yes, even the major players such as HP have had printer driver issues with Vista. You don't indicate the make and model of the printer that you are trying to install. If you can add some more detail that would help the troubleshooting.
