i have vista and i was kind of dreading it because of what was being said about it
but i love it, it has so many great features and programs. i have basic, some things i love about it are:
-photo upload takes like 3 seconds, and it's so easy to view and edit your photos, i can crop/flip 100 pictures in like 1 minute, it's soo easy.
-movie maker: MORE FEATURES!
-the look is very modern
-it comes with a gadgets sidebar where you can play games, watch a slideshow of your picture, see what the weather is, view stocks, news headlines, sticky notes, and analog clock - all very simple!
it's great

My suggestion right now would be to stick with Windows XP (Home sux, try to get XP Professional). Vista still has its bugs and XP will continue to be supported by Microsoft for at least the next 5 years.

Vista home basic, in my opinion isn't worth the money. With Vista home basic really means that...basic. it comes with the most basic of features.
Vista home premium is for multimedia use. Like for watching DVD's, playing music...stuff like that.
Windows XP home is kind of like Vista in that it comes with the most basic of features.
The thing with Windows Vista is that it is still a very new operating system and yes, it is still buggy. However, most of the bugs you may encounter after installing the OS have already been worked through. You see, vista isn't just some rehash of an operating system tweaked to look good. Vista is a completely new OS, so there will be bugs no matter what. But solutions for those bugs will be found and implemented in time. However, Vista is a lot more secure than XP. I'm using Vista right now. It takes a little getting used to, but in maneuvering around the OS isn't too hard. Besides there's books, magazines, and an entire archive of information on the internet. You just have to look for what you need to answer your question.
What operating system do you currently have?
either way...if you're looking for an OS and worried about security and ease of use...then try Window XP Professional. Windows XP has been around for quite a while and so all the bugs have been fixed. Information about manuvering around the OS is in abundance, and that OS is what is still in the norm.
Now, there's nothing wrong with vista. Just remember that Vista is a completely new OS and should be treated as such. There will be bugs but those bugs will be fixed in time.
If I were you I would stay away from WIndows XP Home and Windows Vista Home Basic.
Any other OS is fine, epically Windows Vista Premium. That's the OS I'm using right now and I'm loving it...
