You will have to register the bike before you can sell it, unless you sell it for parts.

I am not sure where you are from, so the laws could affect us differently, but I am from PA in the USA and this is how it would affect me if I was in your situation. If I wanted to sell a bike that wasn't in my name, I would have to contact the owner that had it before me. He would sign the title over to the person I would be selling the bike to. This would have to be done in the presence of a notary service so that it is legal in this country. It sounds like you had the title actually transferred into your name, but you never had it inspected to be road legal. If this is the case and you are from the USA then the bike is in your name. You do not have to have it inspected to complete the transfer. You and the person you are selling it to would just have to go to a notary service and proceed with the steps mentioned above. Another way that you could get around having to contact the previous bike owner would be to contact your State Department of Transportation and tell them you lost the original title. They then have to issue you a new one. I am not completely sure what all steps are taken in going this route. It is something you could purse if you cannot get the first method I mentioned accomplished. Hope this has helped some.
