I'm thinking rear-projection, since we know it lasts for decades, and it's the cheapest and most reliable. Is the picture quality good on rear? Pros and cons that I may not have considered? I saw a rear-projection Mitsubishi 65 inch for $1100 and it looked pretty good to me.

THAT IS an EXCELLENT CHOICE.....No $250 lamps to replace every 3 years....No $800 boards to replace or $1400 light engines to replace either....Once in the life of the TV, you may have a $300 Convergence amp replace and align.A tune up at 10 years....$150That's it.....and you'll have a 1080 Native Resolution display...unlike the 720 resolution found on all LCDs' DLP's and Plasmas that don't have the "1080P" sticker on them....And it will last you a good 15 - 18 years...mine did.
