No, it won't ever be completely free. It cost money to produce it so of course you can't make money by giving it away.And yes, eventaully, after a few years, the price will fall.

alas, windows vista will never be free... i think xp is better anyway... my advice is stick with xp..

Look, I don't like to make smart a_ _ comments in this forum, but, putting a Microsoft OS product name and the word "free" in the same sentence, are you stoned or just insane? As far as going down in price, maybe a little, but not much. I bought a full version of XP for $168 last week, it was the lowest price I could find. And XP has been out a while.
