It's the official site, and it's free. I would be cautious downloading it anywhere else. Not that it's always a virus, but 60% of the time it is. But it's free, so there's no reason to get it elsewhere.

After you install aim, you can add your friends to your buddy list. Then you can chat with them like any other messenger. You can chat with people via text, voice, or even video. Hope this helps.
