how do i make msn live messenger open up firefox rather than explorer when i click...

...the mail icon? my normal internet browser is mozilla firefox but every time i click the mail icon in msn live messenger internet explorer opens up and takes me to my inbox, how can i change this to firefox?
i am running win xp, just tried uninstalling explorer yet msn messenger still opens up explorer god knows how!!!
