How does Yahoo rank it's links, does it differentiate between languages?

Let's just say someone search the word journal, it is in french and in english, how does it know what to refer to the user

Yahoo does not differentiate in its ranking between languages. This is because languages if interpreted may still give answers to any questions asked whether wrong or right.
