How can I use the beta version of Yahoo Messager?

I like how Yahoo Messenger looks when I sign in on the web, but when I download the newest Messenger version, it doesn't look like that, with the conversation "balloons". Do I need to go in from my Yahoo mail account? If so, how do I add that to my mail page? Do I need the toolbar? Any help would be great!
Maybe I don't even need the Beta version, I just like the conversation bubbles.
