Is there an alternative I can use? Not a webmessenger please, I preffer a desktop application.

Like google talk, it's minimalistic, fast and reliable.

Or I can downgrade my version of messenger to still have the features of videoconference?

thanks.

If you want video conferencing, you're pretty much stuck. Using this feature is what causes it to use so much memory, by the way.

If you just want to chat, then there are several messenger programs that are compatible with MSN messenger, my favorite being Gaim/Pidgen, which will allow you to chat seamlessly with MSN, Yahoo, and AIM users, among others.

For your usage, however, you probably want to buy more memory for your computer.
